An aid boat carrying humanitarian supplies bound for Gaza has issued an SOS after an alleged drone strike in international waters off the coast of Malta. The boat is operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), which is campaigning to end Israel’s blockade of Gaza. According to the Maltese government, 16 people were on board. No casualties have been reported. For two months, Israel has blocked humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. Because of that blockade, aid organisations are warning that humanitarian efforts are on the verge of collapse. The United Nations says Gaza’s population is facing starvation, and is calling on Israel to allow the resumption of aid deliveries. Thousands of Palestinian children are already suffering from malnutrition.
