STORYLINE:
A requiem mass for the late Pope Francis was held in Hong Kong on Monday, two days after his funeral.
Led by Hong Kong Cardinal John Hon Tong, the mass at Hong Kong’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was attended by a full audience of faithful.
Hong Kong Cardinal Stephen Chow, who was appointed by Pope Francis, is currently at the Vatican to attend the Conclave to choose the next pope.
Beijing and the Vatican severed diplomatic ties in 1951 following the Communist Party’s rise to power and the expulsion of foreign priests.
Speaking at the mass, Cardinal John Hon Tong said that although Pope Francis never visited China, "his deep care and concern for the church in China were always profoundly felt."
