"What happened was unimaginable, unbelievable. It’s really unbelievable, really heartbreaking. To be honest, I just forced myself to start today, but I really can’t move because of what happened. Being there the whole day, seeing people, like celebrating, having fun. You know, bringing all the families, it’s like, and they’re lining up patiently to taste our food, non-Filipinos, Filipinos, and even though they have been waiting under the sun for so long, no complaints, no nothing, it all smile. What pains me more is that the whole day we’re just happy, celebrating."

"Filipinos are the third largest visible minority here and are growing. In the last census, we reached almost 200,000 in the province. And as a result, Filipinos just being more visible in terms of, you know, being represented in all areas. There’s a large contingent of, you know, health care workers, frontline workers. And Filipino BC plays a role in really advocating for improving and the betterment of lives of Filipinos."

"If I meet another Filipino who I’ve never met before and we just talk for a few minutes, I’ll find out that we share an aunt or an uncle together and it turns out that were related. It really is that close knit, that tight knit and there’s always kind of like knowing glances every time you meet somebody, it’s like just familiarity that’s built in."

STORYLINE:
For Bennet Miemban-Ganata, owner of a popular Filipino restaurant and catering company in Vancouver, the arrival of spring meant the start of wonderful season of “Fiesta” that meant not just good business but a celebration of culture.
From Filipino Food Month in April to Filipino Heritage Month in June, there would be colorful dress, folk dances and traditional food, like crispy lumpia, marinated and grilled pork belly, and beef stew.
