2. SOUNDBITE (English) Nemo, recording artist – on being a tough time for trans people:
"I feel like it’s a very like kind of tough time like emotionally as a trans person and as a person that has like a lot of trans friends and especially trans friends in the U.S. and the U.K. and it’s really kind of – I just don’t, I don’t get it, you know, like I’m like why are we at this point? It’s very hard to understand and I think – I’m just having lots of conversations with people at the moment and trying to like figure out what can I do, like what is it, like how can we collectively like come together and like create momentum? I feel like it’s hard when there’s like so much pushback on something and you’re like, just like the only thing you want to do is just like being able to live and be yourself, not having to worry, not having to like hide. And if that’s not given, like it’s like, how do we even like, what can I do? And I think it’s really important to not like feel like there is nothing you can do."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Nemo, recording artist – on using their platform:
"I want to contribute. I feel like I really feel like there’s something I need to do and I think a big thing for me is talking about my queer experience through my music, but also contextualising it in that way, but then also just like standing up for what I believe in and not being afraid to speak up and encouraging others to speak up as well."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Nemo, recording artist – on trans people wanting to be understood:
"I feel like it’s a very human thing to want to be understood and I feel like a lot of the time I just feel like trans people are not understood really and that makes me really sad because it’s like we’re not even talking about the same thing sometimes I feel like and it’s just kind of like a lot of noise and then it affects actual people’s life in the end and yeah."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Nemo, recording artist – on whether things are moving backwards:
"They want us to feel that, because that’s the first step of resignation. Is that the word? Resignation. And I have so much hope that things are generally moving forward. And, you know, like, there’s this thing, like sometimes, like in historical context, that I’ve talked to a few people that, like sometimes before it gets better, it gets worse. I think people are generally ready for empathy and for understanding each other. Like we are humans, we have like that ability and we, like, on a personal level, I get along with so many people, you know, and I meet people all the time and there’s like a genuine human connection, but I feel like we’re so disconnected sometimes from each other due to social media and like different bubbles and like, what we’re being fed, and sometimes it’s dangerous, things that little boys are being fed on social media right now. And I feel like it just kind of creates these parallel worlds. And I just want us to remember that we have so much more in common than against each other. So I do think we have to keep moving forward, that’s the only way to go."
