While all eyes are on the Sistine Chapel chimney to see whether black or white smoke signaling a new pope emerges, viewers watching live streams of the smoke stack have taken a special interest in the seagulls hovering nearby.
Catholic cardinals gathered at the Vatican on Wednesday to elect the successor to Pope Francis.
Voting will take place in the Sistine Chapel, with ballots continuing in succession until any candidate secures two-thirds of the available votes.
