Black Smoke Seen After First Vote in Papal Conclave

Black smoke, signalling no pope had been selected, was seen over St. Peter’s Square after the first vote, the only vote on Wednesday. One hundred and thirty-three Cardinals from 71 countries marched in a procession into the Sistine Chapel to begin their historic deliberations. Italy has the largest single bloc of votes, 17, compared with the USA, which has 10, the next highest bloc. Inside Edition producer Emma Keady met with a pyrotechnics expert to learn how the Vatican sends out smoke when the ballots are burned.
