STORYLINE:
Clutching pots and buckets, desperate families pushed and shoved at food distribution sites to reach steaming vats of soup in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza and Beit Lahiya, in northern Gaza.

Israel has renewed an aid blockade into Gaza, with the strip not receiving food, medication, or other assistance since March 2.

The UN World Food Program said its food stockpiles have run out, while aid groups say thousands of Palestinian children are malnourished due to the embargo.

Israel says the blockade is to pressure Hamas to release the remaining hostages.

More than 200 families are still waiting, said Hani Abu Al-Kassem, the founder of Rafah charity, moments after he and fellow volunteers distributed the last of their food.

“They will return home without receiving food. Many of them said that nothing has entered their stomachs or their children’s stomachs for more than three days.”

“The famine that is ravaging the Gaza Strip today is not just a threat, but has become a reality that we are living,” Kassem added.

Faten Al-Sabbagh waited at the food distribution site in Beit Lahiya, but the supplies ran out before she could get anything for her eight-member family.

“I need to provide them with a bite of food, I wish I can find even bread, but there is nothing,” she told the Associated Press.

“The prices are high and there are no salaries.”
