"And to respond to the challenges of international competition, here too, we want to act hand in hand. This applies to US tariffs, to a united European response, and to a balanced outcome that respects our interests. This justifies even more that we in Europe have our own competitiveness agenda."

3. SOUNDBITE (French) Emmanuel Macron, French President:
"And so, beyond the promised three days, which will probably not be respected like the previous ones, is the Russian President serious at last? Is he finally deciding to keep his word, and in particular the one he gave in his discussions with the American administration? That’s what matters to us. And in any case, we will be there to support this 30-day ceasefire and build a robust and lasting peace by assuming our responsibilities and we are coordinating very closely."

4. SOUNDBITE (French) Emmanuel Macron, French President:
"In regards to the Gaza Strip, as you mentioned, our position has been very clear from the outset. We stood by Israel on October 7 and condemned the Hamas terrorist attack. We are fighting relentlessly for the release of all the hostages, but also because Israel is a democracy and because we have principles of our own, and because we cannot have double standards and be so committed in Ukraine to the principle of the right of peoples to dispose of their own territory and sovereignty. We’re not going to have double standards when it comes to Gaza and so fighting a terrorist group like Hamas, yes. But not to respect any humanitarian rule and maintain the situation in Gaza, no. This situation is unacceptable. Just as the forced displacement of populations is an unacceptable response."
