STORYLINE:
Top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi greeted foreign ministers from Latin American and Caribbean countries on Monday afternoon, during their visit for a ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum in Beijing.
At Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Wang held respective talks with visiting Guyanan Foreign Minister Hugh Hilton Todd, Advisor to the President of Nicaragua Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo and Colombian Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia.
Wang also met foreign ministers from the Caribbean countries of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Jamaica, Suriname.
Heads of delegations from Barbados, Bahamas, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago took part and Guyana’s foreign minister Hugh Hilton Todd was also in attendance.
The ministerial meeting between China and the 33-member bloc is scheduled on Tuesday, and Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony, according to the state news agency Xinhua.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is also in the country for a state visit and is expected to attend the forum.
This year’s forum marks the 10th anniversary of the China-CELAC Forum – a platform established to enhance collaboration between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries.
