“It’s very important today I mean it’s 80 years since the end of the WWII. We think this valley has been where we had lived for 4-500 years. Our world was cut in 1938 and we had to flee for our lives and lost a bit of our history. So putting a little bit of history back into a place hopefully bringing out as well the history of Oskar Schindler when he gave the ring 80 years ago and the village is what we are celebrating, if one can celebrate the end of the war but that’s what we’re doing today.”

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Daniel Löw-Beer, family originally owned Oskar Schindler’s factory:
“The story that occurred here is recognised in Argentina, it’s recognised in America, in Australia. Our family has come back, our three branches that came here today they’ve came back from Australia, came back from Brazil where they fled to, they’ve come back from America. None of them survived in Czechoslovakia but they’ve come back today to Brnenec. So I am delighted that people would come back now to Brnenec.”

“I knew what the vision was, I’ve seen the plans for the vision but to see it realised and to see all these people coming here to honour it, is to me it’s just overwhelming. It’s just so beautiful and it’s got such a potential for children.”

“Since opening, we have booked a lot of dates from schools because we are in touch with many schools in the Czech Republic. It is a very interesting place for learning. We would like to create a project here that is based on place-based learning – students will go through the whole history on the spot, showing specific historical events, which is an interesting way to educate students. We also want to show them how one person can make a difference and change history.”
