STORYLINE:
1. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will pay an official visit to China from May 17 to 20. What are China’s expectations?
Denmark was one of the first Western countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark.
Currently, China-Denmark relations are developing well, with close cooperation in economic, trade, and green innovation. Both sides support multilateralism and free trade, and have a broad consensus on important issues, such as climate change.
China is willing to take this visit as an opportunity to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and promote the continuous, healthy, and stable development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Denmark.
2. The 78th World Health Assembly will open on May 19, and the Taiwan region has not yet received an invitation to attend. What is the Chinese government’s comment on this?
The Taiwan region of China has no basis, reason, or right to participate in the World Health Assembly without the consent of the Chinese central government. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan stubbornly adhere to the separatist stance of Taiwan independence, leading to the loss of the political foundation for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly.
To uphold the one-China principle and safeguard the solemnity and authority of relevant United Nations General Assembly and World Health Assembly resolutions, China has decided not to agree to Taiwan’s participation in this year’s World Health Assembly.
For some time, the DPP authorities and a few countries have blatantly backpedaled on historical issues, deliberately distorting and challenging UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, and attempting to challenge the one-China principle. This is not only a challenge to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity but also a challenge to international justice and universal consensus, and a challenge to the post-World War II international order.
China’s decision not to agree to Taiwan’s participation in this year’s World Health Assembly has received widespread understanding and support from the international community. This shows that adherence to the one-China principle is the will of the people, the trend of the times, and the right thing to do.
The international community’s adherence to the one-China principle is unchallengeable and unshakable. No matter what the DPP authorities say or do, they cannot change the fact that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, and Taiwan is a part of China. They cannot stop the historical trend of China’s inevitable and eventual reunification. Taiwan independence is a dead end, and seeking independence with provocations is doomed to fail.

The Australian writer Yang Hengjun has detailed his experience of unbearable suffering in China where he has been jailed since 2019 on charges of espionage that he denies in a letter addressed to Australian Prime Minister Albanese released to the media this week.
