"Defense Minister (Andrey) Belousov and Chief of the General Staff (Valery) Gerasimov gave their reports. All commanders of the military groups (in Ukraine) provided updates on the situation in their directions at the line of contact. A detailed joint discussion of all the reports took place. Taking into account these reports, the president of Russia summarized the outcomes, set the tasks, and defined the negotiation position of the Russian delegation in Istanbul."

STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Thursday that Russian officials were waiting for their Ukrainian counterparts in Istanbul for proposed peace talks.
Speaking to journalists Thursday, Peskov stressed that Putin had briefed his negotiators during a dedicated meeting on Wednesday night, which included battlefield reports from Russia’s military.
He also said that Putin had no plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in the coming days.
The Russian delegation’s arrival in Turkey came after European leaders met Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in Kyiv over the weekend and urged the Kremlin to agree to a full, unconditional 30-day ceasefire as a first step toward peace.
Putin later responded by proposing direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul Zelenskyy challenged Putin to hold face-to-face talks.
The Russian president didn’t show up in Turkey on Thursday for the proposed direct talks with Zelenskyy, who was waiting for him in the capital of Ankara.
With Putin absent and a Russian delegation there in his stead, it wasn’t clear whether the sides would meet for their first such talks since March 2022.
Putin’s absence punctured hopes of a breakthrough in peace efforts that were given a push in recent months by the Trump administration and Western European leaders.
