US President Donald Trump has announced an initial investment of $25 billion for "Golden Dome", a missile system he says will protect the United States against foreign nuclear threats. Inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome, the defense shield project proposes to build a massive network of satellites to detect, track and potentially intercept incoming missiles. Trump said the missile shield would be fully operational by the end of his term in 2029, requiring a total investment of $175 billion. The GOP’s current spending bill asks US Congress to approve an initial $25 billion for the project.
