3. SOUNDBITE (English) Kat Renfroe, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, Migrant and Refugee Services:
“Refugees are the most hopeful people I’ve ever met. Without it, they wouldn’t be able to get here. So yeah, I think that, you know, faith is a cornerstone and I don’t think I’d be able to do this work without believing that this was what I was meant to do.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Dari) Hogai Ibrahimkhil, Afghan Refugee:
"I’ve been extremely anxious, to the point that I’ve developed stress—especially in the past month or two, because of my parents’ situation in Pakistan. They don’t have visas, and my father has cancer. Unfortunately, after their visas expired, they’ve been unable to see a doctor, and that has become a huge challenge for me. When I see my father suffering in pain and I can’t take him to a doctor, and my mother also has health problems but can’t go to a doctor either, because of the fear that they might get caught by the police on the way, it breaks me. They’re afraid of being deported back to Afghanistan."

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Kat Renfroe, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, Migrant and Refugee Services:
“I think it’s tough for military families, especially those who have served, to look back on 20 years and not feel as though there’s some confusion and maybe even some anger about the situation. Yeah, it’s just a shame. I’ll just keep praying. It’s all I can do from my end.”

“It was affecting so many of the lives of our families here who had served in Afghanistan. It wasn’t something that was outside of our circle of experience. And so it mattered to people. And then the other thing was is that it wasn’t just happening somewhere else. People were coming here and, you know Quantico became a big part of, sort of the welcoming of Afghans into the country and preparing to do that."
