2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohammad Abu-Hilal, displaced from Rafah:
“I left at 6:00 am because my children were hungry and I took my ID. I went with my ID, legally. I did not go to steal. Unfortunately, I swear to God Almighty, I saw cars carrying about 50 aid boxes and others carrying 20 boxes. (It’s seems that) the Jews (Israelis) had agreed with the merchants to do that. And all the people were hungry. It all happened by stealing. It was not the people who stole, the merchants were the thieves.”

4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohammad Abu-Hilal, displaced from Rafah:
“From the Jews (Israeli army), I was collecting wood, and the Americans were standing by. Because I crossed and went to a hill, they opened fire immediately. I was hit in the face by (bullet) a fragment. Thank God, God protected me.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Kareem Darweesh, displaced man from Rafah:
“There was no (security) inspection or anything, some of them came and took aid more than once. The youths are the ones who controlled the aid, they are all young boys, they are the ones who controlled the aid. We the elderly couldn’t carry anything. We didn’t get any aid and we are asking them to hand over the distribution of aid to the agency (UNRWA). We are asking them to hand over the distribution of aid to the agency (UNRWA). The current situation is chaos, chaos, no one can get their share of the aid. Rights are lost, thieves are taking the aid and selling it.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohammad Abu-Elinin, displaced from Rafah:
“I went there around 5:30-6:00 am, some people were carrying aid using carts, many aid parcels were thrown on the ground, in four big squares and the parcels and bags of flour were thrown on the ground. Those who went with the carts were gangs who took and carried the aid. As for the rest of the people after 6:00 am they returned empty-handed, they did not get anything.”

12. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Samira Z’urob, displaced from Khan Younis:
“I went at 6:00 am and didn’t find anything. All the aid had been taken and the thieves had stolen people’s aid. This is a sin. I asked someone for a bag of pasta and a can of beans, and I said thank God, and went to my children. I had no flour, I had nothing. I haven’t had any flour for more than a week. I went to get food for my children, and I came back empty-handed. What will I do? Life is unbearable; this life is unbearable.”

STORYLINE:
Palestinians described more scenes of chaos on Thursday at an aid distribution hub in the Gaza Strip, which was established by a new Israeli and U.S.-backed foundation.
They said large crowds pushed their way through metal turnstiles as security contractors struggled to control the crowd.
People scattered as gunfire rang out, though it was not clear who fired or if there were any casualties.
Samira Z’urob, who had been displaced from Khan Younis, said she managed to grab a pasta bag and can of beans from someone as there was no aid left.
