As head of state, the Federal President has already expressed his congratulations at the level of the elected. He has acted as is customary. The Federal Chancellor joins in this congratulations, takes note of the outcome of the election. It is an election that we are all following closely out of European interest. We consider the German-Polish relationship to be good and resilient and look forward to positive and intensive cooperation with the new president.”

“And as far as the mood within Poland is concerned, it’s not for me to judge. STORYLINE:
A German government spokesperson said Monday that the Polish election was followed "closely" out of European interest as the country elected in conservative Karol Nawrocki.

Speaking at a news conference in Berlin, Stefan Kornelius said Chancellor Friedrich Merz congratulated the new Polish leader over the "election that we are all following closely out of European interest."

"We consider the German-Polish relationship to be good and resilient and look forward to positive and intensive cooperation with the new president," he added.

Nawrocki, a conservative historian and staunch nationalist, was elected as Poland’s next president in a closely watched vote that signals a resurgence of right-wing populism in the heart of Europe.

The 42-year-old politician is set to take office on Aug. 6 and is expected to shape the country’s domestic and foreign policy in ways that could strain ties with Brussels while aligning the Central European nation of nearly 38 million people more closely with the administration of President Donald Trump in the United States.
