A passenger jet carrying over 240 people crashed shortly after takeoff in India. Air India Flight AI 171, bound for London’s Gatwick Airport, had just left an airport in the city of Ahmedabad. Its signal reportedly was lost at an altitude of 625 feet, before it crashed in a residential area. Thick black smoke rose from the crash site as emergency crews rushed to the scene. The flight reportedly was carrying Indian, British, Portuguese, and Canadian nationals. This is a developing story.
