STORYLINE:
The stars of Broadway walked the red carpet in New York Sunday for the 78th annual Tony Awards. Actors and creators from some of the biggest plays and musicals this season were nominated for American theater’s highest accolade. Nominees included George Clooney, Mia Farrow, Nicole Scherzinger, and the most Tony-nominated actor Audra McDonald.
George Clooney and Amal Clooney posed for photos outside Radio City Music Hall where the ceremony was broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
Darren Criss and Renée Elise Goldsberry hosted THE TONY AWARDS: ACT ONE, a live pre-show available to viewers for free on Pluto TV. The main show was hosted by Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner and three-time Oscar nominee Erivo.
Featured performances included the casts of nominated new musicals and revivals including "Buena Vista Social Club," "Dead Outlaw," "Death Becomes Her," "Floyd Collins," "Gypsy," "Maybe Happy Ending," "Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical," "Pirates! The Penzance Musical," "Sunset Blvd.," "Just In Time," and "Real Women Have Curves."
One greatly anticipated performance was from the original Broadway cast of "Hamilton" to mark the historic show’s 10th anniversary year.
