“I managed to overcome some of my demons, maybe not completely, always battling with them. And maybe that’s what this documentary’s about in some ways, it shows all the different periods of my life: The punk rock era, you know, where we sort of didn’t really think there was much of a future in it really, but it went mega and we thought it might only last six months a year, two years. Look what happened. Maybe if you do the thing you love, you get paid back. Maybe that’s what this documentary is talking about as well.”

“Also, it talks about the relationship with my father, my family, my mother, my father in most particular, because we had a particularly weird teenager time. It was a little weird, but Dad didn’t quite understand why you’d want to be a performer. He couldn’t understand that at all. But I think over time he did, and we had a great last 20 years of his life. It’s fantastic. But we went through a weird time. The film talks about that.”

“We took a long time over it, mainly because of the coronavirus kept interrupting, but actually it all helped the documentary in the end. It needed that time. It needed a gestation period and it came out, it’s killer. I mean it’s got emotional moments. I was crying at the end of it last time I watched it.”

“Well, I came to New York in 1981 to sort of start my solo career. It gave me a second home, I mean it really took me, it took me in New York, it really took me into America. I can’t thank you enough, it’s been incredible, I’m so glad this is happening at Tribeca, which has helped to bring back, after 9-11, it helped to really bring the city back and I love New York so it’s fantastic, I can be here premiering it tonight.”
