Israel claims killing of Iran’s top military commander as Iranians try to flee Tehran | DW News

Israel says it has killed one of Iran’s top military commanders, General Ali Shadmani. Israel said he was the Iranian wartime chief of staff, and had only been in the job for a few days. Shadmani was a close adviser to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran is yet to confirm the killing but Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar told a parliamentary committee meeting that Shadmani was dead.
