STORYLINE:
Controversial French MEP from far-left party France Unbowed Rima Hassan, who was onboard the ‘freedom flotilla’ to Gaza with Greta Thunberg, was expelled from Israel and arrived back in Paris on Thursday evening.
She then attended a big gathering on Place de la République in Paris later in the evening.
Speaking to the crowd of supporters and activists, Hassan said ‘our action was aiming to, firstly, deliver humanitarian aid in Gaza, at least what we could bring with this boat, but also and mainly denounce the blockade and break it.”
Israel deported several activists, including Greta Thunberg, after the Gaza-bound ship they were on was seized by the Israeli military.
The trip was meant to protest Israeli restrictions on aid to Gaza’s population of over 2 million people after 20 months of war, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the group behind the journey.
