"I freaking was trying to go to the VA and I was trying to go across and they told me to stop first. And of course I complied when I crossed the first checkpoint and they had told me to basically get down on the ground. Nothing wrong, just basically complied to everything they were saying. And it’s just we’re at the worst time we’re situation where people are becoming more aggressive with what’s going on. But as long as you feel like you’ve complied in everything, worked it pretty natural, worked good and okay, and now I’m free to come back home. But the VA (referring to United States Department of Veterans Affairs) is closed. If everyone needs to know, the VA’s closed right now."

"Oh because I passed the yellow tape. The first time I wanted to pass the yellow tape this because I don’t want to go all the way around. They told me to basically go back. I went back to the first checkpoint. And that’s when they thought I was basically trying to do this again and become more aggressive because you see other basically other protesters are no more aggressive. So they’re just doing their job and that’s the whole sense of being just compliant and standing because they have their jobs here."

"They treated me very fairly and everything. There’s been more communication and letting them know what’s going on. They’re like, okay, just this is what’s goin’ on,
Marcos. Like, I understand this is a whole stressful situation for everybody, and we all have a job. So the more you’re okay with this, the more you are okay and following through to what we’re telling you, the more like this is gonna be okay because we’re walking away. And that’s what it was. So just them going through their, I don’t know what it’s called… and from there Homeland security Yeah, um, this is weird. Wow"

" I became a citizen actually through the military.
(Reporter: "How old were you?")
I’m 27 years old, I was a combat engineer in the military and that was basically why I came here for the VA.
(Reporter: "How do you feel about what happened to you today? ")
Nothing wrong, basically just a process, a procedure. To be honest, it’s just annoying. Because I’m not from L.A. Originally. So to know that this is what’s going on, even though I live downtown, to coming out here in Brentwood, to know this is all this is happening, being so serious. So then again, this is the federal department, this is a building. So like I’m understanding that like anything that happens here, you can actually get federal accusations. So it comes to remind you, behoove of you, to be very like, to take care of, be compliant with everything that they say."

STORYLINE:
A member of the U.S. Marines detained an Army veteran who was on his way to a VA appointment inside a Los Angeles federal building on Friday, minutes after the troops had taken over guard duty at the facility.
“They told me to get down on the ground,” Leao said. “I basically complied with everything they were saying.”
