"I freaking was trying to go to the VA and I was trying to go across and they told me to stop first. And of course I complied when I crossed the first checkpoint and they had told me to basically get down on the ground. Nothing wrong, just basically complied to everything they were saying. And it’s just we’re at the worst time we’re situation where people are becoming more aggressive with what’s going on."

STORYLINE:
A member of the U.S. Marines detained an Army veteran who was on his way to a VA appointment inside a Los Angeles federal building on Friday, minutes after the troops had taken over guard duty at the facility.
Marcos Leao, 27, said he had walked past a piece of caution tape just outside the heavily-guarded building when he saw a U.S. Marine sprinting toward him. He had been listening to music in his headphones at the time, he said, and did not hear their initial orders to stop.
“They told me to get down on the ground,” Leao said. “I basically complied with everything they were saying.”
Members of the Marines and the National Guard then placed Leao in zip ties, detaining him for more than two hours, before releasing him without charges.
