STORYLINE:
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Wednesday that Europe must back stopping the war as a way to extend support for Israel.
"If they want to support Israel, they must support the cessation of war and support the drive to achieve a just peace," Safadi said.
The foreign minister comments came at a news conference with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul in Berlin on Wednesday.
Safadi also emphasized that the escalation between Iran and Israel must end, as further tensions will only hurt all countries in the region.
"War will not bring security and peace to anyone; it will only lead to further conflict in the region," he added.
Israeli warplanes pounded Iran’s capital overnight and into Wednesday as Iran launched a small barrage of missiles at Israel with no reports of casualties.
On Friday, Israel launched a major attack with strikes in the Iranian capital of Tehran and elsewhere, killing senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and destroying critical infrastructure.
Iran has retaliated with hundreds of drones and missiles.
The dayslong attacks between the two bitter enemies have opened a new chapter in their turbulent recent history.
Many in the region fear a wider conflict as they watch waves of attacks across their skies every night.
