STORYLINE:
China imposed permit requirements on seven rare earth elements in April, threatening to halt production of cars, robots, wind turbines and other high-tech products in the U.S. and around the world.

Its commerce ministry announced earlier in June that China approved “a certain number” of export permits for rare earth-related items after a two-day trade talk in London.

China’s commerce ministry spokesperson He Yadong said Thursday in Beijing that China is “continuously accelerating the review of export applications related to rare earths."

The elements China has restricted are crucial for a variety of uses in electric vehicles, wind turbines and military uses like jet engines and nuclear submarines.

He refused to give any detail of how many approvals for the exports the ministry have granted since April 4th and how many are for the U.S. companies.
