STORYLINE:
Yoga enthusiasts gathered at sunrise for a yoga class in Arpoador Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga.
International Yoga Day was established in 2014 by the United Nations to promote the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga.
Celebrated annually on June 21, the day is marked by events and activities worldwide.
“Today is a celebration day, here and everywhere where yoga has reached, which I believe is the whole world. We are all celebrating, doing the mantras, asking for a better situation for all, that people have more opportunities, live in peace, have less anxiety and more balance,” said Marta Reis, Head of Brand Experience at Mude, the event organizer.
The roots of yoga can be traced back thousands of years to ancient India, where it was developed as a discipline to harmonize the mind, body, and spirit.
The practice involves various physical postures, asanas, breath control, pranayama, and meditation (dhyana), aiming to achieve balance and harmony within the individual.
