“So I, first and foremost, saw it as being more useful in dealing with the personnel that work for me, my supervisors, and the officers as well. And being more attuned to listening to what they’re saying rather than trying to already have the answer or have it figured out, just listening to them hearing them out, being there to see their needs and see that they’re fulfilled. But I also did see that that could be useful when dealing with the public as well. Because a lot of times, we go into situations and you feel like you already have handled this type of situation so many times, and that you already know what the outcome is going to be and what the person’s problem is. And a lot of times, we go into it with that mentality rather than actually hearing them out.”

“One of the other methods we use is every two weeks, I test my crime prevention team with identifying hotspots where we see the uptick in the theft from autos or the car thefts. And then going out to those areas with prevention flyers and placing them on vehicles, placing them in doors.”

“Coming into the role, you don’t know what you’re going to really face. And it is demanding. There are a lot of people wanting answers right away.
