4. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Valerii Mankuta, Kyiv resident:
"First I thought to escape by climbing down the tree, but I realised I couldn’t make the jump. There was no point in waiting for the rescuers because everything was collapsing, cars were exploding, everything was cracking and breaking, with dust and smoke all around me. I made my way to where the door used to be, but saw there was nothing left. I found this lightning rod, made of metal, and used it to climb down to the fourth floor. Then, little by little, I made my way out through the rubble."

7. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Tymur Tkachenko, Head of Kyiv Military Administration:
"Unfortunately, there are already six dead. The search operations are continuing and there might still be people under the debris. In total around Kyiv there are 25 injured, according to the information we received. The Russian aggression hit eight districts."

STORYLINE:
Russian drones and missiles killed at least 10 civilians in Ukraine in nighttime attacks, local officials said Monday, with seven deaths reported in the capital, Kyiv, where emergency crews raced to find people believed trapped under the rubble of a partially collapsed apartment building.

More than two dozen people were injured in the Kyiv attack, including four children, according to the city’s military administration head Tymur Tkachenko.

Dozens of vehicles, some burned out and others mangled by flying debris from the blast, were left strewn about the courtyard in front of the struck apartment building, which had collapsed down to the second floor.

Onlookers, some wrapped in blankets, watched tearfully as the clean up operation took place, with volunteers working to remove broken glass, fallen tree branches and other debris.

Valerii Mankuta was sleeping in his room on the fifth floor when a Russian missile struck the building.

He сlimbed down the wall to the fourth floor, and then made his way over the rubble to the ground, escaping the building unharmed.

"Everything was collapsing, cars were exploding, everything was cracking and breaking, with dust and smoke all around me," Mankuta told AP.

Russia fired 352 drones and decoys overnight, as well as 11 ballistic missiles and five cruise missiles, Ukraine’s air force said. Air defenses intercepted or jammed 339 drones and 15 missiles before they could reach their targets, a statement said.

The strikes came nearly a week after a combined Russian attack on Ukraine last Tuesday killed 28 people in Kyiv, 23 of them in a residential building that collapsed after sustaining a direct missile hit.
