Bryan Kohberger lived in rural Effort, Pennsylvania, which has a population of 2,226, along the Pocono Mountains. Friends say he was overweight and bullied in high school and developed a heroin addiction in his later teen years. By senior year, he had lost 100 pounds. His former classmates say that’s when he underwent a personality change and became aggressive. When he was 17, Kohberger was diagnosed with visual snow syndrome, a rare neurological condition.
