Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign has piqued the interest of South Asians and Muslims in New York City and beyond. The 33-year-old stunned the political establishment and some in his own community when he declared victory on Tuesday in the Democratic primary, a ranked choice election in which his strongest competition, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, conceded defeat.
