Is the US becoming the EU’s new Russia for gas? | DW News

The EU is open to buying more US LNG to placate Donald Trump and dodge exorbitant tariffs. The bloc has become far more reliant on US LNG in recent years, having massively cut its reliance on Russian gas following the invasion of Ukraine. Is the EU merely trading one gas dependency for another?

Around 45% of the EU’s LNG comes from the US, which is about 16% of the total of the bloc’s total gas imports. However, unlike pipeline gas, LNG tankers can be rerouted if a trading partner starts playing hard ball.
