2. SOUNDBITE (English) Larry Leitha, Kerr County Sheriff:
"Okay, once again, Larry Leitha, Kerr County Sheriff. Before I get in my notes, I want to address a couple of things. Obviously, there’s been some alerts going on the phone. We have checked one with the process of checking the other one. What we know on the flood warning on 13 40 FM 13 40 that is inaccurate. There is no water coming down 13 40. We have confirmed that. On Johnson Creek, there’s a rise there. That rise could put 1 to 2 ft into the Guadalupe River. We will be staying on top of that."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Dalton Rice, Kerrville City Manager:
(Reporter off-camera: She stepped up for a story. But we talked to several people in this community who say they got no emergency alerts whatsoever. Governor Abbott, in his press release, just placed responsibility onto local agencies. I know you’re focusing on victims right now, but yes or no, did local agencies send out any emergency alerts, flares, sirens of any kind?)
"No, I know you guys keep asking this question. You know, we appreciate it. We think it’s important. We don’t want to speculate. And, know, at this time we know there’s a lot of speculation and question around it again. There’s gonna be a full review of this so we can make sure that we focus on future preparedness. We just – again – we want to continue to focus on the families at this time and so we’re getting through that. So thank you."

STORYLINE:
The death toll from flash floods that raged through central Texas has risen to 78 after searchers found more bodies.

Authorities say many more remain missing, including 10 girls from Camp Mystic, a summer camp wiped out by the flooding early Friday.

Searchers now have found 68 bodies in Kerr County where a wall of water came down the Guadalupe River.

Sheriff Larry Leitha says the dead include 28 children.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott warned Sunday that additional rounds of heavy rains lasting into Tuesday could produce more life-threatening flooding.

Some families were allowed to look around the hardest hit camp in the Hill Country on Sunday while nearby crews continued their search.

With each passing hour, the outlook of finding more survivors became even more bleak.

Volunteers and some families of the missing who drove to the disaster zone searched the riverbanks despite being asked not to do so.

The president said he would likely visit Friday.
