"If you had seen what July 3rd looked like, you would never guess that this was coming that night. I even, at my restaurant, I had a band playing, I even had them play outside because there was no rain coming. So everybody had a wonderful time. A lot of my customers that were here July 3rd are missing."

"Hearing the screams because you couldn’t see anything, it was pitch black, but hearing people’s screams, kids screaming, asking for help, cars were floating away with the lights on. You could see the lights and you can hear honking. And there was like not one or two, but there were dozens of vehicles just floating away."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Lorena Guillen, owner of Howdy’s Restaurant, Bar & Chill:
"Actually he (a restaurant employee) was the last one out of the restaurant. We finished cleaning and one o’clock in the morning he went home because it started to rain really hard and he got after… his house started flooding eventually and to get his family out he broke a window and he cut an artery on his arm really hard, deep and he got his family to safety. He did, he got his babies out, three beautiful little kids but he bled to death."

STORYLINE:
A swift-moving flood swept through the Hill Country of Texas on Friday, killing at least 82 people and leaving many more missing.

Lorena Guillen, owner of a local restaurant, said if people had seen what July 3rd looked like, they would never have guessed what was coming that night.

At her restaurant, she said they even had a band playing outside because there was no rain in sight.

"It was pitch black, but you could hear people screaming, kids screaming, asking for help. Cars were floating away with the lights on… There were dozens of vehicles just floating away. It was just too much," said Guillen as she described the moment the flash flooding hit.

She said the area was a "paradise", with crystal clear waters perfect for fishing, kayaking, and swimming.

"Kerrville is all about the river. We all live along the river’s edge… we all love this river," she said.

She said one of her employees saved his family from his flooded home by breaking a window but cut an artery and died of the blood loss.

Guillen said the flash floods were devastating for the small-town community.

"Every single person is affected by it," she said.
