"My family’s been coming to Hunt to go camp with our children for the last 15 years. We’ve known some people who perished in the flood, you know, we have friends within the camp community who still can’t find their daughters and so of course without question, if you get here, you show up and you do whatever you can."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Daniel Carlton, Volunteer:
"If we can bring some sort of closure by finding their loved ones, of course that’s first and foremost. Helping rebuild people’s lives, helping rebuild the community, always in the forefront of our minds also because, you know without that strong base, that foundation of friends and family and faith, I mean that’s what draws us to help."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Daniel Carlton, Volunteer:
"Service revolves around my life, in uniform, out of uniform, so I get out here and do what I can."
10. Wide of Jason Sabala carrying a large log during cleanup efforts
11. SOUNDBITE (English) Jason Sabala, Volunteer:
"No one wants anybody to go through that type of traumatic experience and so the thought, I mean it brought me to tears many times just thinking about, as a father, them being, they’re helpless. And so that was a big thing for me because I was trying to figure out a way that I could get my crew, my people to engage, whether they had kids or not, just to be Texans and just coming together and doing what we need to do."
12. Various of Terrence Ogden cleaning up debris
13. SOUNDBITE (English) Terrence Ogden, Volunteer:
"I just feel it’s like our duty as Americans and as Texans especially. You know, I’m an 8th generation Texan and, you know this is our home, you know, and I always look at it if I was in these people’s positions, how would I feel and what would I want? And so you know it’s important to me because I think in this world we live in today we’re so connected, we’re disconnected. And by going out here getting dirty getting, you know, everybody likes to sit and watch that on TV but it’s like this is where the rubber meets the road, you know, and that’s what it is for me at least."

15. SOUNDBITE (English) Terrence Ogden, Volunteer:
"But a lot of times in these situations you get this strong effort right up front. Six months down the road, that’s when the reality sits home. You know you find the item of your loved one that you lost and it’s like those are the tough times that it’s like, it doesn’t just end after we clean all this up because a lot of this stuff sticks around inside you, you know."
