"A week ago, this area had not appeared. But because the (water) releases from Turkey were limited and at the same time, the release of water from the dam was a lot. So, what was going out from the dam was much higher than what was coming in. There were 60 cubic meters per seconds coming from Turkey, but they (dam management) were releasing 320 cubic meters per second. Therefore, all these areas resurfaced, and farms have almost dried up. Even the fishery has declined."

STORYLINE:
An old Iraqi village that was submerged under the Mosul Dam Lake decades ago during the construction of the dam has resurfaced due to a massive decline in the water level at the dam.

The old village of Zummar was submerged underneath the lake in 1985, after the construction of Mosul Dam in the early 1980s.

Locals have been visiting the site to see the newly resurfaced school, village houses and other buildings.

The Tigris River and small tributaries from the rainy season are the main sources of water for the Mosul Dam Lake.
