2. SOUNDBITE (English) Gladys Harrison, Owner of Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering:
"My mom had a desire to feed people all over the world, and the easiest way for us to do that is to sell our seasonings. You know, they don’t have to be on ice. They’re easy to ship. And up until our new president come into office, the price for seasonings, you know, were very reasonable at a rate where everybody involved in that whole ecosystem of seasonings, you know, was able to make a living."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Gladys Harrison, Owner of Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering:
"And then all this tariff stuff began. Some of the core ingredients in our seasonings have gone up, garlic is one. And we are finding creative ways to try to not – to pass that price increase onto our customers. Our restaurant is located in North Omaha, and this is a place, a part of the city where folks don’t have a lot of disposable income. And the kinds of effects that not just the tariffs, but the effects to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), the effects to Medicare are gonna hurt the people in the community where I am in, my neighbors, it’s gonna hurt them the worst."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Gladys Harrison, Owner of Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering:
"And whether you voted for the current administration or not, none of us voted for this. Nobody voted for this. And I don’t understand how the tariffs are going to help me as a small business owner trying to fulfill her mom’s dream of sending people her seasonings, her food all over the world or my neighbors. Who I’m in community with here, how is that gonna help them come and be able to eat at my restaurant and it not break the bank for them? "

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Gladys Harrison, Owner of Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering:
"If you’ve got a small business in your neighborhood that sells goods and services that you need, go support that small business. This is how we all can you know, make it through what’s getting ready to be a tough period for us. And so that’s what I’m hoping that people would, would get that, you know if Big Mama’s can just sell 20 or 30 more chicken dinners today that’ll keep their prices where they are. And keep the food affordable not just for the people in this community, but for everybody and that this is how we’ll all get through this. That the people that you see back there working can keep their jobs, that I can give some raises."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Gladys Harrison, Owner of Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering:
"We haven’t been able to do that expansion that we were hoping to do. And had to put the brakes on that again, because I don’t wanna hire some folks and then have to lay them off in a month or two. And the going back and forth, yes, we’re gonna do the tariffs, yes we aren’t. You know, It just puts us in a limbo kind of state, in a lukewarm state. And it’s frustrating."
