STORYLINE:
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday morning for talks in Moscow.
Berlusconi arrived late on Wednesday for a hastily arranged, one-day working visit.
Putin thanked Berlusconi for his work to improve relations between the two countries and the two leaders discussed cooperation in the international anti-terrorist campaign.
They are also expected to talk about relations between Russia and the European Union and Russia and NATO.
Russian newspapers reported on Thursday that Berlusconi’s visit reflected Moscow’s cultivation of stronger relations with the European Union.
Berlusconi is scheduled to come to Moscow again on an official visit next year.
