"Since the beginning of the war, we have not stopped for a single day, but we’ve been closed for two weeks because there isn’t any kind of goods or anything to eat. Even if the prices were high we would say no problem, we’d buy. But now, there is nothing at all."

5. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abu Hamza Fawaz, owner of charity kitchen:
"We are actually also from among the displaced and from among the people. The situation is very difficult. We used to eat three meals, and were happy with them. But today, we are unable to eat half a meal. There is nothing available in the country. Even flour, which is the main meal and must be available in homes, is completely unavailable. And if it is available, its price is exorbitant and we cannot afford it."

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Khalid Abed, resident from Deir al-Balah:

It is similar to how we are still searching for clean drinking water, we are still saying the water has run out and we cannot find clean drinking water in the street. There is no drinking water. I go to the markets and there is nothing. No tomatoes nor eggplants. Vegetables are depleted. There is only green pepper. There is nothing that can help us in what we are going through."

"Life has become very difficult, beyond what you can imagine. They are unable to provide food and there is no food. And if there is food, it is very, very, very expensive. Things are very difficult and we do not know what to do. We have become hungry. There is nothing, no food, no drink. We do not even know how to deal with the children, what to say and when it comes to food. We don’t know what to do. It is difficult and matters are very difficult, beyond what you can imagine."

STORYLINE:
Once a lifeline for thousands of displaced Palestinians, charity kitchens in central Gaza have ground to a halt, with empty pots and cold ovens showing the strain of worsening shortages.
In Deir al-Balah, one of the few remaining soup kitchens shut down two weeks ago.
Its once-busy cooking area now stands still with stacks of metal pots empty.
"Since the beginning of the war, we have not stopped for a single day," said Abu Hamza Fawaz, who runs the kitchen. "But we’ve been closed for two weeks because there isn’t any kind of goods or anything to eat."
The war In Gaza has driven the territory to the brink of famine.
Charity kitchens used to provide warm meals like lentils and rice to hundreds daily.
