7. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Esraa Abu Halib, mother of baby Zainab who died of malnutrition-related causes:
"My five-month-old daughter died of malnutrition (due to) a lack of baby formula, the closure of the crossing and the ban on the entry of baby formula. With my daughter’s death, many will follow. Their names are on a list that no one looks at. They are just names and numbers. We are just numbers. Our children, whom we carried for nine months and then gave birth to, have become just numbers."

10. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Esraa Abu Halib, mother of baby Zainab who died of malnutrition-related causes:
"I was pregnant with her during the war, and there was hunger. She was born during a time of famine, and there was no breastfeeding, and there was a shortage of everything. Anyone who listens to me knows that I am telling the truth. There is pollution (dirty conditions), we live in tents, and there is pollution. How can a girl like her recover?"

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Dr. Ahmed al-Farah, head of the pediatric department at Nasser hospital:
"She is not complaining (having) from any disease, but unfortunately she has some type of, she needs some type of milk. We called it extensive hydrolysed formula, and unfortunately this formula wasn’t available. So the baby got in vomiting and diarrhea. This makes severe dehydration and severe malnutrition. This affects her, as not gaining weight and her immunity was in the lower, the lowest level or the least level, so she got also a bacterial infection and sepsis so she was unable to swallow and she was dead yesterday, came to the hospital as a body because of severe, severe starvation."

15. SOUNDBITE (English) Dr. Ahmed al-Farah, head of the pediatric department at Nasser hospital:
"What we are talking about that children are more prone and more susceptible to malnutrition and to starvation and to be arrested (affected) and died due to malnutrition as they are…have a lack of fat tissue, they have lack of muscles. They have, even, just the source of energy for them is milk and there is no substitute instead of milk to be given for them. So they are more prone for malnutrition and the complication of malnutrition and one of the serious complication is death."

STORYLINE:
A mother pressed a final kiss to what remained of her five-month-old daughter and wept.
