18. SOUNDBITE (English) King Abdullah II of Jordan:
"On the airdrops, our small nation just by ourselves when it came to airdrops, we are now the third largest country in humanitarian airdrops in the world since 1948 and the Berlin airlift. So I understand that it is not the most efficient way of doing things, but it is something that we can do. But it is pressure on Israel to allow us to get not only to Gaza but also to the West Bank that is suffering also."

STORYLINE:
Jordan’s King Abdullah II arrived in Berlin Tuesday for bilateral discussions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, including on the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
King Abdullah said that airdrops of aid to Gaza are a "drop in the ocean" but successfully "put pressure on Israel."
Merz added that airdrops make a "small humanitarian contribution."
"It is an important signal: we are there, we are in the region, we are helping," Merz said.
For the third consecutive day, Jordan, the UAE and other countries airdropped aid over Gaza on Tuesday.
In a press conference, Merz said that two aircraft are heading to Jordan, in collaboration with France and the U.K., to be equipped with aid supplies for delivery to Gaza.
King Abdullah expressed his gratitude for Germany’s support.
The meeting comes as the leading international authority on food crises said that "famine is currently playing out in the Gaza Strip," predicting “widespread death” without immediate action.
The World Food Program has said essential health and other services have collapsed and one in three people in Gaza is going without food for days at a time.
Hospitals are also reporting a rapid increase in hunger-related deaths in children under 5.
