STORYLINE:
The United Arab Emirates air force on Tuesday dropped 20 tons of humanitarian aid over the war-torn Gaza Strip, as widespread hunger and food shortages compound pain in the tiny enclave.
Seventeen tonnes of aid was dropped by the Emirati aircraft over the central and northern regions of Gaza.
It was the third consecutive day aid was dropped from the sky, following the latest measures taken by Israel in response to international pressure to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as images of emaciated children in the war-torn Palestinian territory provoke widespread condemnation.
Over the weekend Israel announced that the military would pause operations in various spots across Gaza for 10 hours a day, designate secure routes for aid delivery, and allow international airdrops.
The United Nations World Food Program says nearly half a million people in Gaza are enduring famine-like conditions.
The vast majority of the two million Palestinians living there need aid to survive.
