STORYLINE:
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro joined a motorcycle rally in Brasília on Tuesday afternoon despite court-imposed restrictions.
Bolsonaro is currently wearing an electronic ankle monitor and barred from using social media under orders from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The former president just waved and smiled at his supporters, without making a speech.
The rally comes during a critical week when protests were called in state capitals and regional hubs to pressure Congress to prevent Bolsonaro from being jailed.
The former president has been subject to precautionary measures issued last week by Moraes, including a ban on using social media, for allegedly masterminding a coup plot to remain in office despite his defeat in the 2022 election.
Bolsonaro visited the Chamber of Deputies on Monday July 21, and photos and videos of the visit were posted online, prompting Justice Moraes to demand clarification regarding the apparent breach of conditions.
Although the Court decided not to order Bolsonaro’s preventive detention, Moraes warned that any further violations would lead to immediate arrest.
