4. SOUNDBITE (English) Donald Trump, U.S. President:
"Because I want to watch this witch hunt myself. I’ve been going through a witch hunt for years, but this is really now getting dirty between Jack Smith and between all of these DOJ people helping them along. This is a pure witch hunt for purposes of interfering with the elections of the United States of America. It’s totally illegal. This judge should be disbarred. He shouldn’t be allowed to be a judge. Thank you."

STORYLINE:
Federal officials are investigating Jack Smith, the former special counsel who investigated then-candidate Donald Trump before his reelection for a second term.
The Office of Special Counsel on Saturday confirmed the investigation. The Office of Special counsel is an independent federal agency.
Smith was named a special counsel to investigate Trump by then-Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Trump and other Republicans, including Sen. Tom Cotton, have — without offering evidence — accused Smith of violating federal law that bans certain public officials from engaging in political activity.
Smith prosecuted federal cases against Trump.
Smith dropped the cases after Trump’s reelection and resigned his post.
