"This (The GHF aid hub) is there to die. We don’t want this American aid. We want UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) to return to delivering aid to us. We want UNRWA to return to delivering aid to us. Honestly, UNRWA was enough for our household needs, but this is a massacre. Our children come to die, our children return dead, they return carried (killed). For what? For a few chickpeas? For a few peas? Enough, enough. Have mercy on us, have mercy on us, Oh Arab countries. Just as your children are precious to you, our children are also precious to us. My son will be 25, 23, and he will return to me being carried (killed)."

"I came to collect aid. I returned with a kilo and a half of flour, not enough for eight people. If I distributed it among eight people, each one would get a loaf of bread. We are unable to even bring food for our children. We leave at 5:30 a.m. or 4 a.m. and we get nothing. That’s in addition to the martyrs and the wounded."

STORYLINE:
Witnesses and hospitals said Israeli troops opened fire Monday morning towards crowds of Palestinians trying to reach a food distribution site operated by an Israeli-US-backed group in central Gaza, killing at least eight people.
The gunfire took place in the Netzarim corridor area, in Central Gaza, hundreds of meters (yards) away from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) site, witnesses said.
GHF said there has been nothing at or near their sites on Monday.
The Awda hospital in the nearby Nuseirat refugee camp said at least 50 others were wounded by Israeli fire.
Associated Press footage shows hundreds carrying bags and boxes returning from the site and demanding to reestablish better distribution systems run by the UN.
Hayam al-Nabahein, a Palestinian woman from the Bureig refugee camp in central Gaza, called for the return of the UN-led system.
“We don’t want this American aid," she said. "We want UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) to return to delivering aid to us."
Israel’s blockade and military offensive has hindered the delivery of aid by air or land, contributing to the territory’s slide toward famine nearly 22 months into the Israel-Hamas war.
Aid groups say recent measures taken by Israel to allow more aid in have been insufficient.
Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since May while heading toward food distribution sites and in melees around aid convoys, according to witnesses, local health officials and the United Nations human rights office.
The military says it has only fired warning shots and disputes the toll.
Several countries have airdropped aid over Gaza as international alarm has mounted in recent days.
The United Nations and aid groups have voiced skepticism, saying such drops are costly and dangerous for residents, and that they deliver far less aid than trucks.
