STORYLINE:
US President Donald Trump’s new tariff rates on U.S. imports from dozens of countries took effect Thursday – the latest chapter in the saga of Trump’s reshaping of global trade.
At the port of Bangkok, in Thailand, the loading of containers for export continued as normal.
Southeast Asia’s second-biggest economy is now subject to a 19% tariff on the goods it sends to the United States. It was originally set at 36%.
A Bank of Thailand report from April 2025 said that 18% of Thailand’s exports go to the United States, accounting for 2.2% of GDP.
