"For World Lion Day we are using a plethora of different enrichment items for our lions today. Mostly, we have lots of different sized Puma balls, which are like a thick plastic ball, which is great, it can tolerate their claws and teeth, so they last for quite a long time and they can push them around, they can carry them, they can do pretty much anything they want with them. And it just really encourages those natural behaviours that the cubs would experience at this age, encourages good play, which is how they learn skills out in the wild."

"So we have a pride of Asiatic lions. We have five altogether. So we’ve got, Bhanu, our breeding male. And then we’ve got Arya our female, they’re our pair. And then, in 2024, we welcomed three Asiatic lion cubs, which was just amazing news to us. We have two males, Mali and Syanii. And then our female is called Shanti. And they are now about 18 months old. And they’re just so playful. They just enjoy life and they love to explore new things all the time."

"Because they only come from the Gir reserve, which, as I said, is a very small space. One simple disease or some natural disaster in that area could wipe out or nearly wipe out the entire population. So having these animals as a kind of emergency reserve population is incredibly important. We’re very happy to be part of that."

"I got to see the lions running around. They started out, when I came over here, tearing down the party decorations, which was really, really fun to watch. And then they have all these toy ball things that they were running around playing football with, which was very fun."
