Synopsis:
Britain’s Imperial War Museum is busy restoring American warbirds for a new American War Museum at Duxford in Cambridgeshire. Star exhibit is a giant B52 bomber which saw action in Vietnam. Curator Chris Chippington however doesn’t restore to flying condition because to do that means replacing a lot of parts and losing historical integrity. As he points out a lot of warbirds seen at air shows are replicas in which the only genuine article is the serial number. As work progresses on a whole variety of aircraft – with the help of volunteers – he also explains that the object is not to glorify war, but to have reminders around for future generations.
