Israeli media reports say the country’s Defense Minister Israel Katz has approved the military’s plan to take over Gaza City. Aid groups fear a new offensive will only deepen the already desperate humanitarian situation.
Meanwhile, mediators are awaiting Israel’s official response to a new ceasefire proposal put forward by Egypt and Qatar. Hamas has already accepted the proposal, which reportedly includes a 60-day ceasefire and a phased release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
