Texas passes new Trump-backed congressional maps ahead of 2026 elections | DW News

Despite a two-week protest by Democratic lawmakers, Texas Republicans have taken the first step to approving new congressional maps that could give their party as many as five new seats in the US House of Representatives. This decision could have wide-reaching consequences for in US politics. Right now Texas has 25 Republicans and 12 Democrats in the House. The row has sent ripple across the country, as governors from both parties threaten to redraw maps in their states to win more seats.
