"What differentiates the nursery of Ras Sanad is that it is the only sea nursery that relies naturally on the ebb and flow of the tides to irrigate the seedlings, unlike land nurseries that depend on treated water to water the seedlings and require monitoring of irrigation and drainage everyday."

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Hussein Rabie, species control specialist at the Supreme Council for the Environment in Bahrain:
"Ras Sanad, or the sea nursery, is characterized by producing high-quality, resilient and strong seedlings that can withstand environmental conditions in agricultural sites. This is because the seedlings are planted in their natural environment and transferred to their natural environment, unlike those in land nurseries, which are irrigated with treated water and require adaptation processes before being moved to planting sites."

11. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Mohammed Abdullah, specialist at the Biodiversity Department at the Supreme Council for the Environment in Bahrain:
"The sites for planting mangrove trees are identified following a comprehensive field study that looks into the nature of the site and focuses on coastal sites because mangrove trees are coastal and grow in tidal areas. The soil type, its depth, the salt content, the strength of sea currents and agricultural capacity were also evaluated."

One of the features of the mangrove is its ability to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide. Therefore, these trees help us mitigate the effects of climate change."
